One of the most crucial aspects of improving your overall performance if you’re a baseball player is core strength training. Advanced core strength techniques will help you improve your overall balance, as well as reduce the chances of getting an injury while swinging, pitching, and throwing. These advanced core strength training tips can help you to become a great power hitter and help you to stay healthy and have a long lasting career.

Advanced core strength work outs are also beneficial for improving a person’s throwing or pitching ability. Strengthening your core isn’t just about being a power hitter, but about achieving an overall balance and improvement in all of the skills you use on the field. All of the skills and muscle movements involved in the game of baseball start in your midsection, which is your core. If you don’t have flexibility and strength in your abdominal muscles, your performance will be poor, and you may end up riding the bench.

The core consists of all the muscles that make up your abdomen and lower back. This particular group of muscles works together to help stabilize your body and help in the transferring of power from the legs to your upper body, and from your upper body back down to your legs. Advanced core strength exercises specifically target these groups of muscles and work to increase their strength, power, and efficiency.

One great advanced core strength exercise that will help you build some serious muscle is the deadlift. Doing deadlifts will help increase the strength in your lower back and will help you prevent injuries to that specific muscle group. These advanced core strength techniques will allow you to get maximum results, but should be done carefully. If these techniques aren’t done properly you can end up getting injured or cause any number of different problems and aggravations.

Another great advanced core strength technique is the lunge. Most people tend to think of the lunge as strictly a leg exercise, but this misses the fact that the lunge is a movement that when done perfectly, requires a lot of co-ordination and use from the trunk and core muscles area. There are a number of different variations of the lunge that can be performed which will really work your core.

A great way to develop solid core strength is to do bicycle crunches. This advanced core strength technique is great for working out and strengthening the rectus abdominus and the internal and external obliques. These exercises are great because they are very effective and easy to do. By implementing these into your abdominal workout you’re sure to gain a strong midsection.

If you’re planning a long lasting career in professional baseball, then placing emphasis on gaining core strength should be one of your top priorities. By putting together an advanced core strength training program you’ll become a more effective player and also prolong your career by avoiding injuries. C.J. Emphasizing core strength training and use high tension techniques to function as one complete unit will allow you to perform better. Training your body to function as a complete unit by emphasizing core strength training and using high tension techniques will bring about the greatest performance improvement. Performance improvement starts at the core… not at the extremities. The center of power and strength is found in the core… and by the very nature of the human body, all movement involves the musculature of the core. Therefore, by emphasizing core strength training you will improve performance over a wide spectrum of physical activities. Imagine your body as three links in a chain… the upper body, the core and the lower body. It is the core that coordinates all the movements of the upper and lower body. When I talk about the core, I am talking about the entire trunk of the body… not just the abdominal muscles. When I talk about strength, I am talking about the entire spectrum of strength… not just strength endurance exemplified by high repetition core exercises. So what is proper core strength training? Well, the first thing you do is… just say “no” to machines! The excessive use of machines eliminates the adaptive stress for the stabilizer muscles in the body. The stabilizer muscles are the muscles that give stability to the core and permit the other parts of the body, usually the extremities, to exert force. Just think of it… performing exercises while strapped into a machine does little to prepare you for movement patterns in the real world. How many times in the real world will you be asked to exert force while seated and strapped into place? I dare say not very often. The over reliance of resistance training on machines will rob the stabilizer muscles of the stress needed to improve in conjunction with the other muscles being trained. The result… when you try to exert force in the real world with the extremities your core will be the weak link in the chain. The inability of the core muscles to support the force trying to be exerted by the extremities will cause the body to disallow the movement. Ultimately, the improvements in strength that are gained on machines will not translate into performance improvements that you can use in the real world… and over use of machines will eventually sabotage your performance. This shows just how important the core muscles are to over all performance improvement… and the importance of core strength training. Core strength training must use a variety of exercises, stresses and resistance… not just high repetition abdominal exercises. The most important thing you can do for the core muscles is incorporate them into as many of your exercises as possible… by training the body to function as one complete unit. You should look at every exercise you do as core strength training! So, how do you do that? Use High Tension Techniques! Martial artists have know for centuries that incorporating the whole body into every movement by using high tension produces the most force. When performing any exercise, you should incorporate as many muscles as possible into the movement to realize you potential strength and power. There are various methods for generating high tension… but the most effective method is to use all the methods at the same time. The most common methods are… Tightening your Fists
When you perform an exercise, squeeze your fist as much as possible… if your hands are occupied you must tighten your grip as much as possible. Tightening your Core Muscles
When you perform an exercise, squeeze you core muscles as much as possible. This does not mean sucking in your stomach…but rather tightening the stomach muscles while keeping the stomach flat. To create more tension… exhale with force in a controlled manner while contracting the core muscles. Tightening your Butt Muscles
When perform an exercise, squeeze your butt muscles as much as possible. Incorporating the butt muscles into your exercise will add a large muscle group to the movement and create a solid and steady base to perform the movement. As stated above… to get the most benefit out of using high tension techniques you should try to do all three techniques at the same time. The point is this… your body must function as one complete unit, and the core is the part of the body that allows the rest of the body to perform. Have you ever wondered why Old-Time Strongmen had such well developed core muscles in an age before crunches, ab machines and magic potions? What was there core strength training secrets? Well, a healthy lifestyle and eating habits had a lot to do with it… But their core strength training came mostly from incorporating their core muscles into all physical exercise. That’s right… no abdominal isolation and “feel the burn” for those guys. Incorporating core strength training into all your physical training and varying stress, intensity and methods will develop a solid, functional core that will solidify your body as one complete unit and improve performance in a wide variety of physical activities. Secret Tools Revealed in Amazing Core Secrets

Amazing Core Secrets is brought to you by Christopher Mazzella, a certified personal trainer with over 18 years of hands-on experience teaching core strength classes to groups as well as individuals. Below he shares personal experiences and why he developed The Amazing Core Secrets Blog.
“If you have attempted to increase core strength just buy doing ab exercises or crunches, you’ve been missing the boat!”
“Proper core strength is built by doing multi-planar movements so that these muscles that stabilize the spine and move the body can work together better.”

Since we sit during the day and often sleep curled up, we develop muscle imbalances which “turn off” and decrease our ability to utilize our total core  muscles properly. Doing crunches while lying on your back and pulling on your neck like I normally see in the gym, not only can cause injury, it wastes your time,” says Christopher Mazzella.

I know how it feels to have awesome core strength, and I also know how it feels to have poor core strength and serious back pain. For example, as early as 13 years old I started having lower back pain when playing hockey. I would have patterns of back pain especially after days or weeks of rest. I delt with it for many years if my life but only found it was my core that was weak! I wish the advances of core strength training were around when I played. Experts “kinda” knew since they would say to strengthen your abdominals and it would help the lower back pain. The concept of total core fitness wasn’t mentioned. It could have saved me many years of back pain and stiffness, not to mention it would have improved my game big time.

I’ve been suffering for many years with a genetic back disease called (AS) ankylosing spondylitis. It’s a chronic, inflammatory arthritis and autoimmune disease. It mainly affects joints in the spine and the sacroilium in the pelvis, causing eventual fusion of the spine. When I found this out, I was freaked. (What? Fusion of the spine…Yes- Meaning no movement. Ouch!

Given this information, I had to act as quickly as I could to enhance my core, stretch my entire spine and do what I can to maintain optimum wellness.
Here are some of my secret tools revealed..

Training Intensity
Following brief but intense fat burning workouts to keep my entire core and body and strong is the most essential step in maintaining a comprehensive core fitness program. Compound movements and bodyweight exercises as well as these exercises in mini circuts is essential. I use programs like Turbulence Training for my total core fitness. I know for a fact, if someone is struggling to get the results they want, they are probably not doing what I just mentioned. I know this because as soon as I’ve applied the programs in Turbulence Training, there was an amazing turn around in results.
Stretch or Start Stretching!
I’ve personally found that the flexibility component of fitness is one of the most under appreciated component of health and fitness. Many people will never know how good they could feel until they increase their flexibility. Stretching is something most people don’t do or leave a very little time to do it.

I…… HAVE TO DO IT. However, anyone that tries my Instant Flexibility Class usually has an awesome experience. And, if they come back, they quickly begin to feel the benefits of enhanced flexibility and fluid – less restricted movement. That is a hidden secret. I went 6 weeks without training after surgery last year. Because of all the stretching I did, my body kept amazing muscle tone and definition. I would of never thought, yet again I really never stop training for that long unless I have a surgery. I’m glad I was forced not to train but keeping my flexibility program. This showed me a whole new side of results – just through stretching.
Supplement Your Immunity – Especially Now!
Supplementing my immune system with  Transfer Factor supplementation is vitally important to me for a few reasons. I have  been on Enbrel for about 2 years and it has helped me greatly. Every doctor is amazed at my movement and range of motion.

Don’t get me wrong, I still  have chronic pain throughout my body,  but now it is livable. What I am most excited about is my ability to stay healthy while on Enbrel. * As a child and throughout my life, I had compromised immunity and was always very sick . Since Enbrel works by lowering your immune system, doctors warned me that the Enbrel could lower my resistance as well as keep me open to infection.

Thank God, I take Transfer Factor by 4Life which enables my immune system to be modulated (helps to brings down an overactive immune system as well as BOOSTS a low immune system). In English, I haven’t been seriously sick in two years even though I starting the Enbrel!  Given my previously past low immunity, I definitely owe my now strong immune system to Transfer Factor.

I also practice do my best with sanitary prevention since I’m a personal trainer  and also teach group fitness training. My daily interaction of teaching fitness classes and working with heavily breathing individuals puts me on a crowded battlefield of bacteria and viruses. Besides the hand sanitizers and frequent hand washing, I also use a Transfer Factor Immune Spray and RioVida Burst packets. These have done an amazing job of keeping me healthy while faced with genetic and environmental challenges.
