Floor stretches that have really helped me. I started doing these simple stretches 2 years ago, and they have really helped. Somehow I thought the stretching alone would eliminate my back pain. No way. I needed to build muscles to support my back. But the stretching is very important. I now do many of these stretches using a Pilates Reformer (see part 3 of this series). But you don’t need a Pilates machine to do back stretches. I have other stretches I do, but this video covers the ones I consider to be most important, and that helped me the most in eliminating my low back pain. After 8 years of agonizing back pain, I knew I had to do something, and I wasn’t going to take the surgery or painkiller route. Each of the videos in this series will give another piece of the puzzle. After I added the exercises you’ll see in the other videos to the stretches in this video, it only took me 6 months to eliminate my back pain.

Less sitting, more walking. Typical problem of our ages.

@Squallzy13 I highly recommend you search Peter Egoscue and read his Book Pain Free. It sounds like you need some passive exercises to balance your muscle skeletal system so they will let go and stop pulling you of position which is causing the pain.

This dudes hip angle is not good all. Look how his feet point out. What is he doing? look at some anatomy photos and pay particular attention to the psoas major muscle that connects from the T12 vertebrate to the L5 vertebrate and attaches to the hip. Also look at what muscles are attached to the pelvis. Things that make you go Hmmm

Even though these aren’t making the pain go away, it still feels good. How long should it take before the pain is gone

Also, make sure while you are doing the exercises on the floor, that your back is pressed against the ground – there shouldn’t be a “whole” between your lumbar back and floor. Notice that you can have this position also by sightly lifting your head.

I must point out that my physiotherapist said that lifting both legs while pressing them on the abdomen is for slightly “advanced” muscles. I have been suffering for about a year, and my abs are not in good shape – for those having the simmilar condition, I reccomend lifting one leg at a time.
